Logitech Web Camera c910 Installation and Resolution.

New camera today that needed lots of troubleshooting out of the box.  Pretty frustrating as the camera has been on the market for a while.  I was able to resolve the problem(s) so far.  The issue appears to be that if you have Windows 7 64 bit there seems to be lots of installation problems.  Other 32 bit versions of Windows seem to be okay.

Out of the box the software installed and I was able to view the video using the delivered software.

Problem #1:  The microphone driver didn't get installed appropriately.  In the Logitech software the microphone of "HD Pro Webcam C910" was not listed as part of the drop down mic choice.  No sound was recorded from the new web camera.

Going into the Windows 7 | control panel | Device Manager | Sound, Video, and game controller, all I had was an "unidentified device" published by Logitech.  This said that the driver could not be found.  Hunting for the driver under this functionality finds the Logitech software, but then errors out saying the software is already installed.

Resolution:  Through the control panel | Programs and Features | remove all software that is provided by Logitech for web cams.  I had 3 sets of Logitech software to uninstall.  Previous 2009 Logitech drivers and today's new web cam software.  Uninstall all of that and reboot each time it asks you to. Then double check that the unidentified device in the device manager is gone.  If not delete it.  Reboot and then from the delivered CD re install the C910 software.  Don't plug in the web camera until it tells you to do so.    Reboot every time it tells you.  Once stable check for updates and then install those.  Likely reboot again.  This time the mic driver should now be present in the quick capture Logitech software.  This worked for me.

Other tips:  1)  Make sure the camera is plugged directly into a USB port on your computer.  Not a USB hub.  2) Unplug unnecessary devices for the time being such as other web cameras.  3) If you upgrading from a past Logitech camera.  Unplug it, and uninstall all of the driver software first then follow the above directions.

Problem # 2:  When I went into quick capture to record a video the software acted as if a video was recording but the record "red" icon never shows up and it records nothing.  I had this problem on the c9000 as well.

Resolution:  Start the Logitech Web Camera software while in administrator mode.  Right click on the run icon and hit "run as administrator".  To permanently make this change right click on the icon and go to properties | short cut | advanced | check mark "run as administrator".

Very inconvenient and several hours lost, but problem solved.
