Intel 82579v Gigabit Ethernet Troubleshooting

I recently purchased a new Asus motherboard for my new ivy bridge setup and I've discovered that the on board intel gigabit port is highly sensitive.  The problem was that I was only getting 100 Mbps when I should have been getting a 1000 Mbps or 1 Gigabit.

Ultimately it turned to be that my previously used network cord was not sufficient.  I plugged in a Cat 6 version and the network speed then registered correctly.

Debug steps if you are in a similar position:

1)  Make sure all drivers are update to date.
2) Start and stop the network connection and make sure all the IP address are what you are expecting.
3)  Try different cords including one stamped as Cat 6 or gigabit network ready.
4)  Make sure all of your connecting hubs, switch, etc all support gigabit network.

good luck.
