Permanently booting your mac in 64bit

Another tip from my experiences in Mac land.. painful, tormenting at times.  I wanted to make sure my mid-2010 Macbook Pro was alway booting into 64 boot mode as I bought Final Cut Pro X and wanted power power power and stability.

So there are several links out there that tell you to modify the "com.apple.Boot.plist" file with the following edit in bold:
"<string> arch=x86_64 </string>"

File location:  Library -> Preferences -> SystemConfiguration

For me this ended up being more difficult than planned as it wouldn't let me save the file.  I received this error:

"The document “com.apple.Boot.plist” could not be saved."

Here is the resolution.

1)  Copy the file to the desktop
2)  Make the file edit to the file copy.
3)  Save the copy on the desktop.
4)  Move the file back to the original location, confirm that you will replace the file. Type in your password.  You should be good to go on the next reboot.

Confirmation on the next reboot:

Go to the upper left apple icon menu.
Go to about this mac
Go to more info
Go to software
Confirm that "64-bit Kernel and Extensions" is set to "Yes".
